In
India, Diwali which means lighting the lamp festival in India is one of the
major festival where burning of crackers during the festival is an integral
part of the celebrations. Sound-crackers and fireworks are manufactured by
using large amount of nitrates and sulphates of lead, cadmium, potassium,
ammonium and magnesium.
During bursting of these crackers take place, toxic
metal fumes and gases like carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen
dioxide, as well as, particulate matter (PM) is emitted in considerable
