Water Level Fluctuation as the Sum of Environmental and Anthropogenic Activities in Southeast, Punjab (India)
Punjab
state forms part of the Indus basin which is one of the most fertile areas of
the world and for the same reason Punjab is considered to be the food basket of India and this also put an immense strain upon its environment. There is an
enormous dependency on ground water resources to meet out the irrigation
requirements.
However, improved management practices, during the last 5
decades, has helped in boosting agricultural production and resulted in all
round development in Punjab which caused decline in water levels and deteriorations
in water quality. These problems are observed all over Punjab including the
Southeast part of the Punjab. Now, all the resources are fully explored and
